Sphinx Rock Farm, Mount Burrell, NSW

A four-person self-contained one bedroom cottage with your own waterfall and waterhole. A glow worm cave, alpacas, chooks and a very friendly dog and cat! All from as little as $150 a night.

Sphinx Rock Farm and map link.

Set about 30 minutes from Murwillumbah in the stunning Tweed Valley. Isolated from the main road and set in lush green gardens. Surrounded by beautiful views of Mount Waning.

A true escape to nature. No reception here (although limited internet access is available from owners).

The owners live in a house behind the cottage but to ensure your privacy; they stay out of your way,  although they were more than happy to teach our kids about the country life. Every day at 4 pm the kids had the opportunity to take the alphas for a walk. Not sure if it was the alpaca or the free ranging chickens or the super playful dog that stole their hearts. The animals entertained the kids for hours allowing both Courtney and me to sit and finally relax.

The waterfall located about a 100m down from the cottage was fantastic. A reasonably sized cave lies behind it, and the 2-meter waterhole is ideal for swimming and playing. At night take the torches and wander down and check out the glow worms. Don’t forget to turn the lights off. Otherwise, you won’t see the worms! It takes time for them to start shining, patience is needed here.

At night enjoy a fire either by the house or down by the waterfall.

100 meters down the road lies a very cute trendy Sphinx Rock Cafe. Enjoy live music on a Sunday afternoon. Sit outside or inside, enjoy a meal and let the kids run free or play in the well-equipped playground. Opened from 8.30 to 4.30 every day. Dinner is available on Fridays. The cafe has free internet. A petrol station and a general store are also located next to the cafe.
