GOLD COAST’S HINTERLAND: DAY TRIP TO CANUNGRA AND CURTIS FALLS
Another day trip. Today Courtney took us to lunch at Canungra and a bush walk to Curtis Falls.
First stop; lunch! A beautiful drive up over the rolling hills to Canungra. A little country town about 90 km south of Brisbane, 35 km west of Surfers Paradise and 27 km from Nerang.
The 1880’s gave rise to the Canungra Sawmill and Canungra’s timber industry. Embrace this heritage and visit the Lahey’s Historic Tramway Tunnel. Unfortunately, I only read about this treasure after our visit. But I’m definitely going back to take the 90m walk through the Sandstone Tunnel, which was carved by hand and took three years to build. It was designed to transport timber from the mountain to the Lahey’s Sawmill.
Canungra’ highlights are the Canungra Rodeo in July and the Canungra Country Show in August.
This little diner is home to some great old school home cooked meals. Well priced and always busy.
This little coffee shop is located right in the park, next to the playground. Take Tamborine Mountain Road and make your way to Tamborine Mountain. Picture above.
Hang glider’s lookout
A reasonably easy and short walk through a dense rainforest of unusual canopy: eucalypts, palm and gum trees. A great place to visit on a hot sunny day. A noticeable drop in temperature is felt as soon as you enter.
It’s important to note that swimming is not permitted at the waterfall.
A place to take the kids, although not accessible with a pram and short enough that they shouldn’t whinge. Lots of logs and vines to play on along the way.
The walk is accessible from two points: Eagle Heights Road or from Dapsang Drive carpark.
Entrance from Eagle Heights Road adds another 800m to the round 1.5 km walk.
Eagle Heights Road Entry.
Dapsang Drive car park is next to a gorgeous little restaurant called Tea and Niceties looks like the place to visit for a girlie High Tea. Toilets and picnic tables are right near the entrance. The perfect place to stop and refresh with ice-cream, lollies or a home cooked lunch. Well priced. Located on Eagle Heights Road.
